Friend and Family(Networking ) is still the most often cited way seekers are finding their top choice
jobs. Meeting people, making and asking for connections, staying in touch and creating reciprocal
relationships is what networking is all about. While commonly done on-line now, most effective networking
gives you the opportunity to make face-to-face and eye-to-eye connection with another person.
Start with everyone you know, friends and family included, and let them know what kind of job you’re
looking for and why you’d be so good at it. End every conversation with this question: “Who else do you
suggest I talk to?”
From there your network grows into a larger group of people who have you in mind when they hear of
opportunities. Your next job could truly come from a referral by one of your contacts. Nurture this network
because they are your support system and you are part of theirs. Don’t be surprised when a member of
your network contacts you for the same type of job search favour you are asking for now.
